Being Online Audience in Online Events, Is It Worth?: My Untold Story

This is my first-ever-surprising event that happened in my life!

Last year is a very tough year, especially for me, because 2020 made me so anxious about everything. We could only starring at our screen for 24/7, travelling through apps in our phone because of lockdown (so it called thumb-travel HAHA ok, nice try, Ulfa!), always keep our mask on and prepare hand sanitizer wherever we go, and so on. Even though that anxiety still haunts me, or even us, till today, but we need to keep up because we need to live for our loved ones. We need to live to stay together with them to keep they alive too. Thanks to you because you’re strong!

Anyway, 2020 is, if I can say, proud-of-my-self year for me. Honestly, I try to digging some positivities from so many bad things happened. Firstly, I got my bachelor degree on July last year! I am so proud of my self because I could endured so much hard times at writing my thesis and suddenly everything went to online (thesis guidance and thesis defense) which is made me really scared and anxious almost everyday waiting for my supervisor replied my messages (I’m not lying about this. “Covid-19 generation” can relate). But, sadly, there was no graduation party meanwhile I wanted to wear my toga from my uni so bad like crazy. So, I decided to take some pictures with my family in photo studio, not forgot to wear my toga. Second, I got my first internship ever :D Even it was still unpaid, but I was so thankful because I got a bunch of experiences and friends who guided me a lot of writing things (being editor, for particular) and I decided to continue my internship until I get full-time job soon. And the third, this was unexpected part that I would experience in my 20s life: being an online audience in online event. No, not that video fansign event because I can’t afford that (HAHA!). That made me feel like I was the one of 70 luckiest persons who joined this event because it based on raffle. Yep, like the title above has told you, I was online participant in online event on December last year.

Stop about my 2020 life here and I have to continue to tell my story about this event.

Seventeen on The Fact Music Award, the event that I joined as multicast participant (source: TMA’s Official Account)

How can? And what event?

So, it was started from I voted my fav on web app-based voting platform and BOOM! It showed an announcement that we can join on an that event (it was an award event called TMA) as multicast participation (here’s the technical definition. I believe it’s quite easy to imagine). No need to think more and purely wanna having fun, I signed up to that form. Surprisingly, at the end of November, I got an email from the staff of this event that told me I won the event and being a part of multicast participant. I was really shock at that time, never crossed in my mind to being a such of online audience, and it was totally free. I was very shy and I even had time to intend to cancel this invitation but I thought it would be a precious memory during pandemic (and of course in my lifetime). So, I continue to proceed this invitation (I fulfilled all requirements they needed, include a short interview) until the d-day for being an online audience.

Is it fun? Totally worth for you?

DEFINITELY YES, IT WAS SO FUN! After all requirements had completed, we proceed to rehearsal for the event. Because this event was totally pre-recorded, they needed to record “our act” there, both the rehearsal and the real act. So, actually, we could watch Choi Siwon was being a MC on that day and he did rehearsal with us too (that’s the funniest part tbh). Not much we could see everything about behind the scenes of TMA because this event actually was only for cheering our fav when they won an award (at that time I input SEVENTEEN as my idol fav. When they achieved the award, we had to cheer for them). So, at that time, I had actually known about SEVENTEEN won their award before the d-day because we needed to record “the cheering scene” for them. But, I couldn’t tell to my friends that I already known SEVENTEEN won the award because we had signed the agreement letter (that was about to keep everything in secret when we did a rehearsal) meanwhile I wanted to tell them so much (LOL!).

Is it worth? Of course. Why isn’t it worth actually? Even though it was online, but it’s still amazing for me. We can bring our cheering kit and make a simple banner like “ㅇㅇㅇ 사랑해!” “ㅇㅇㅇ 화이팅!” and show them to the camera. Moreover, we can meet our fav in the live segment even it’s just through screen. Cheering kit that we showed them to the camera (maybe) can be seen by them too. Silently, I know they noticed us through our banners (#highconfidence).

Maybe if you want to know how do we interact and what should we do at that time as multicast participant, we used a video call platform, neither Zoom or Google Meet, (maybe this platform is purely from South Korea because I just found out this too) like the picture below. All interactions we did using chat room and there were 3 admins using 3 different languages (Japanese, Korean, and English) to guide us because the participants are from different countries. They commanded us to scream and don’t be shy HAHAHA when I read it I just laughed because it was so hilarious. It was soooo interesting, not gonna lie about it. The 3 admins were so kind and even mentioned sorry so often because we had to waiting for rehearsal and recording a little longer :’)

A sneak-peek about the interaction during rehearsal and recording in the event.

Yeah, so it was story that I never expected to tell in this blog. I just wanna both share and memorize at the same time about my experience being multicast participant for the first time ever (plus being lucky for the first time ever!). So, I thankful so much to event staff that gave me a such of beautiful memory in the end of 2020.

Maybe, for the next content, I’ll be back to discuss about something that I should to discuss LOL. I think, it’s no longer to talk about K-Pop and technology thingy here, but if I find one, I will gladly talk about it here. Thank you so much!
