UX Writing Proposal #2: Weverse

What if I give a little “touch” for Weverse notification?

Wow, it’s been a long time after I write the first proposal related to UX Writing, and now I want to write continuation of the previous content, but for different apps. I think some of us who more into K-Pop or being a fan for particular artist in this big company will familiar with this platform. It is called Weverse.

Weverse (Source: Weverse)

So, technically, this app helps us (fans) to communicate with artist that we’re really fond of. Until now (15/3), there are 17 artists — either from South Korean or western artist — who joined this app and create a new and easy access for their fans (especially for international fans) to communicate with them. I have used this app for almost one year and quite satisfied being a member there. Weverse has very very simple features and its user experience have done well. It has website version and mobile app too — but I think the website one has several limitations — but I will more focus to mobile app (Android version, particularly).

The Features

Let’s talk about the first simple thing: its features. The main features I mean within Weverse app are consisting of Feed, Artist, Media, Discover, and Notification (it looks sort of like common app we are familiar with, right?). I am not gonna blabbering it long, but I think it is quite important to know before we jump into main topic (and it is beneficial for ‘Muggles’ to know more about this app, maybe?).

This figure is the look of main UI of Weverse. These sections are part of artist’s menu. So, after we choose the specific artist, we’re gonna jump into these features. Besides, Discover and Notification are part of main menu within the app (those are in down below including ‘More’ menu).

Okay, so we are gonna jump into main topic for real! I am presenting: Weverse Notification. So, it is just looks like notification menu in other apps and functionable as it should, which is ‘collecting’ important notice from the app. All push notifications from the app will be collected in this menu. For the looks, you can refer to these figures below.

What ‘s the problem? Why does it need an improvement?

As you can see from the looks, there are various notifications that always flooding this menu for every single day. This thought popped up in my mind when I wanted to see an old important notice from the artist and to be very honest, I found it very hard because this notice has ‘sunk’ among others. So, I had to scroll more till I found the notice I want. I can say this idea was just like a bulb above my head and then talked to myself, “why didn’t Weverse make this notification as simple as they dividing it into some types?” But, still, I don’t know what’s going on behind it, haha. At least, I want to pour my idea as much as possible — I would be happy if Weverse listened to my concern (winking at Weverse ;)).

Thus, I designed the redesign process (overall there are 4 steps) which I break down like the picture below.

4 Steps for Notification Menu Redesign Process

According to those steps, what I did first was identify the notifications. As long as I use, I have found 11 types in total. If you notice, there is actually a small icon that represent what type of notification it is in the left side. So, generally, there are seven types of it (based on colors): orange (like and cheer), green (comment), bright tosca (from artist), blueish purple (membership notice), pink (announcement), blue (media), and red (trending post). However, I made it more detail — such as who commented who, this announcement is regarding to who, etc — because it is related to the next step. You can check the detail below.

11 Types of Weverse Notification (source: personal)

After I found these 11 types, so the next step I clarified it based on who sends the notification and who’s doing an activity or interaction. I did it as simple as I could and based on my knowledge from this, so, I hope it won’t make any misleading.

Classification Step Based on Activities (left) and Sender or Who’s Doing an Activity (right)

A little explanation here, I got six types notification from two different classifications. I defined the classes (the left one) that consisting of post, cheer, like, comment, and trending post — in short (I called it as) interaction activity, announcement or notice from the app, and special post. For the last one, it came from membership benefit for everyone who already registered as member on Weverse, so they can get any benefit from it, for instance, special moment, post, and special artist photos. Of course you need to pay for it to make this membership content available on your Weverse app.

Besides, there are three actors who do an activity (the right one): artist, fans (user), and Weverse itself. From user context, mostly about someone or other user who like, cheer, or comment on our post (something like you see on Twitter or Facebook frequently) and alongside with it, Weverse also give their user notices or announcements — regarding to artist or technical announcement related to app.

Overall, based on this step, I got 4 new sub menu name: From Artist, Activity, Notice, and Memberhip. Here are the short details:

From Artist: It contains everything from artist, including new post, comment, and like.

Activity: It comes from user’s activity and everything related to them, such as another user (or even the artist they follow) liked/cheered/commented their post and being one of trending posts.

Notice: Includes all announcements from Weverse (something technical related to app or regarding to artist) and media, such as pictures or new uploaded video.

Membership: This sub menu is specialized for user who already registered as fanclub member for particular artist in Weverse (which is optional). It will contain special post from Weverse (surely regarding to artist) or special post from artist themselves.

Final Result

The figure above is the final result I have made. It consists of those four new sub menu, with the Membership is optionally made based on the user who already paid for registered content. So, there will be three original sub menu with one additional sub menu. I used tiny icon from Weverse for Membership sub menu which it was from Weverse itself because I thought if I used “Membership” phrase, it’d be too long.

So, how was it? However, sometimes there is one question I think about a lot like, “is it necessary to do an improvement?” for Weverse app — especially for this section— but I try my best to propose this idea with my little knowledge and ability. I will never forget to always put my archive on Google Drive, so you can access it freely.

Yeah, it is a wrap!

Thank you for reading my another proposal idea! I really appreciate it if you clap or comment down below. See you on next idea of mine.
